You got it this far. Don't let it fall apart in post.
John is unusually talented and insightful and his results are consistently outstanding....He is highly strategic and has a keen sense of what needs to be done to achieve results. Always generous with his knowledge. I've learned so much from him!
I had a large file for an hour and a half movie that needed final editing. John was most helpful. Courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. He was always in touch with and we worked well together. Highly recommended.
Working with John/Expansive Media exceeded all expectations. With cheerful professionalism and imagination he crafted an elegant video to honor a beloved art teacher, seamlessly combining interviews and images into a beautiful tribute that moved the subject deeply, for which our group is deeply grateful.
John is excellent at understanding what you're looking for and then bringing it to life. John is always laser focused on achieving the best outcomes in the most efficient way. He operates with a great deal of care and integrity. There are no sure bets in life, but John comes the closest I've seen!
Really down to earth and always a sense of calm. He can help walk you through known hurdles and provide extremely helpful tips along the way to set you up for success.
00:09 second example of taking log footage straight out of the camera, correcting it, grading and eventually adding a lamplight holiday glow to emphasize the excitement that comes with opening that special present.
00:15 second example of taking log footage straight out of the camera, correcting & grading it only to find that once properly colored, those freckles and blemishes were beyond what the shoot originally intended.
Log -> Corrected -> Softened -> Refined cheeks, lips, lightened eyes, reduced bags under eyes. Took off a few years.
(we've taken it a step further, here, just to make it obvious)
00:12 second example of a watchmaker's watch. extremely up close.
Log -> Corrected -> Graded -> Final Version -> Same scene by moonlight.
00:03 second example showing how coloring can help make a scene appear as if it was filmed in an entirely different location. Pacific Blue to Caribbean Green-Blue.
Log -> Corrected -> Look Applied
00:03 second example showing how minor adjustments when coloring can help make a scene appear as if it was filmed in a different time of year or even add suspense, hinting that there had been some kind of disaster.
Log -> Corrected -> Summer -> Fall -> Toxic conditions
00:08 second example where we see a doorbell and electrical outlet are distracting from the scene. Gutters could also be removed.
Log -> Corrected -> Summer -> Fall -> Toxic conditions
2 clip example of skiing footage from a 3 year compilation project. The camera doesn't have a mic close enough to pick up the sounds we expect to hear. So, we added them in manually, re-purposed from hockey stops, ice skating and sleds being dragged through snow.
No Sound -> Added SFX -> Adjusted Pitch/Effects -> Added Music -> Leveled voice/sfx/music.
00:17 second example where a stock forest scene comes alive. Then we re-imagine the scene to have something dark and brooding happening in the scene.
No Sound -> Added ambiance/forest/leaves/birds -> Coloring + layers of SFX.
00:13 second example of a wave and a surfer passing overhead. Footage was without audio. Added wave, beach, surf, splash, and underwater sounds. Panned from left to right and far to near. Pitch changes.
No Sound -> Added sounds -> Layered audio editing -> Moved sound throughout the space.
00:16 second example of an ordinary office. On an ordinary day. Transforming that into a completely different environment. Footage was without audio. Added breathing, growling, dragging, eerie sounds. Moved frame to simulate lurching of zombie. Colored room to imagine apocalypse.
No Sound -> Added SFX -> Layered audio editing -> Colored footage to a specific look. Added movement in frame.
Was very pleased with Expansive Media handling my wedding video editing project. John was very responsive to my project needs. He is a skilled video editor who was able to read my vision for the project and delivered the final cuts ahead of schedule.
John was a pleasure to work with as he created a promotional video for our Junior Achievement facility in Appleton. His ability to bring out emotions and provide more than just a visual is very impressive. I would highly recommend!
John is so easy to work with and was very gracious with our requests, revisions and ideas. We can't recommend him highly enough. A team player and true gentleman. Thank you, John, for a great job on our video!
"...and then it's going to a colorist, and then a composer and then a VFX artist, and then a sound designer..."
By being fully focused on projects, applying rigorous processes to the workflow, and bringing a deep attention to understanding your vision. We edit until you are completely happy with the results. This is how we maintain a 100% customer satisfaction rating.
$1,000's saved. Film-makers can save quite a bit of money, by using Expansive Media for their project. Why? Sending your work off to an editor, and then to a colorist, then a sound designer, then someone to compose a music score, hire musicians and record....it adds up fast!
Awesome. I love it!
When it comes to film & doc work, estimating the amount of work beforehand is extremely challenging. We can create a custom proposal once we've gathered info on the project based on an estimated number of hours, at these hourly rates.
