John Ryan runs a boutique editing studio.
I love the reaction I get when something a client filmed, is now a part of a greater cinematic experience. I love creating edits where, during the time with family or friends, people think, "yea, he pulled out his camera a bunch..." and then later when they see the final, are saying, "there was a whole story unfolding, that was so cool!"
I cost 21-48% less (according to nat'l avg's). I can reasonably state that, they probably didn't come from a start-up background like I did, and, I'd guess that I am much more patient and compassionate with what people are trying to accomplish. I'm not likely to be as jaded as a career editor.
World traveler (43 countries and counting). Marketer (owned an agency for a few years). Inc 500 Award Winner 3x's (at 2 startups where I ran marketing and the company was awarded for fast growth).
But more than anything, I've always been a bit of an artist at heart. I drew. I painted. And sometime 16 years or so ago, I started filming and photographing company events. Then I learned to edit. Then many cameras, phones, computers and software learning curves later, people kept suggesting that I do this for a living. It hadn't occurred to me, that most people had not spent 1,000's of hours learning this stuff.
